This was a temporary holding camp set up in late August 1945 for the POWs from Shirakawa who were awaiting evacuation by allied forces at the end of the war.
On August 22nd the POWs who were at Shirakawa were told by the camp commandant that the war was over. On the 27th the men were taken by train to Taihoku and from there placed in a former Japanese military convalescent hospital. They remained there for about ten days, living off supplies dropped by air and brought into the camp by airmen from the American aircraft carriers USS Block Island and USS Santee.
The camp was located on the site of the present Taipei Soccer Stadium in the north central part of Taipei city. The men were evacuated from this camp on September 6th and taken to Manila in the Philippines for medical care and treatment before returning home.
